Comparing our Peruvian Amazon Jungle Lodges

The vast Peruvian Amazon covers over half of Peru and offers spectacular biodiversity, with incredible vegetation, birdlife and wildlife. Puerto Maldonado is a small jungle town in Southern Peru, close to the Brazilian and Bolivian borders. Located on the Madre de Dios and Tambopata Rivers, the nearby jungle lodges we work with offer excellent opportunities to explore the surrounding scenery. Staying in a jungle lodge allows you to experience the Amazon in relative comfort, while guides take you on excursions to explore during the day.

Inkaterra Hacienda Concepcion

HC MainHouse9

Our standard lodge in the Amazon, the Hacienda Concepcion is beautifully set on a small lagoon within 819 hectares of rainforest, a 25-minute canoe ride from Puerto Maldonado. Jungle excursions from this lodge include nature trails through terra firma forest, dugout canoe rides down oxbow lakes, visits to clay licks and sky walks across the 300-metre high canopy walkways.

Why stay here?

This lodge boasts an exotic jungle setting, with simple but comfortable accommodation with hot water and a varied selection of jungle excursions.

Lodge facilities

  • Your stay is on a full board basis. In the main thatched house, there is a bar/lounge area which offers snacks and pisco drinks. There is also a dining area which serves food inspired by the tropical flavours of the Amazon.
  • Expert English-speaking naturalist guides are present on site and provide the guided tours, which include rainforest trails, boat cruises and canopy walks.
  • The lodge offers a 24-hour front desk, hot water, laundry services, wake-up calls, binocular rental and luggage storage.
  • WiFi is not available due to the secluded nature of the lodge.

The room

The lodge comprises 15 rooms decorated in the rich indigenous Ese-Eja style. Guestrooms are broken down into eight rooms and seven cabañas. All rooms have one reading light per bed, an electrical outlet, a ceiling fan and en-suite bathrooms with hot water. The more spacious cabañas also have a comfortable and relaxing seating area with a hammock, and are available for a supplement.

Tambopata Research Centre

Our specialist lodge in the Amazon, the secluded Tambopata Research Centre is located in the primary forest of the Tambopata Reserve and offers the best opportunity for spotting wildlife, with the world’s largest macaw lick nearby. To reach the lodge it is a five-hour boat ride upstream from the Refugio Amazonas.

WHY STAY HERE?

This is an excellent option for people who are looking to see as much as possible in the jungle. Although the accommodation is simple, this is made up for by the better chance to see wildlife in the primary rainforest where there is no human habitation.

LODGE FACILITIES

  • Your stay is on a full board basis. The common areas in the lodge are open and spacey, and include an open-air dining room and bar, a reception lounge and an interpretation centre.

  • Jungle excursions provided by the lodge include jungle trails, visits to the nearby macaw project, jungle tower and pond platform.

  • The lodge offers laundry services, hot water, wake-up calls and binocular rental.

  • Electricity and WiFi are only available in the common areas of the lodge. Kerosene lamps and candles provide light, and there is a generator turned on daily so that guests can recharge batteries.

THE ROOM

In all rooms the wall looking out into the forest is a waist-high veranda, with open views of the surrounding forest. Bedrooms are separated from one another by light cane fencing, with drapes instead of doors. Rooms are private but not soundproof. All rooms also have en-suite bathrooms, mosquito nets, a chair, a night table, rechargeable hanging lamps and a table for luggage and clothing.
